Mindshift Gear MP-1 Bag

I have written quite a few reviews in the past but I am particularly excited about this product. As a wildlife photographer that travels quite often, one of the biggest challenges for me is transporting gear. There are not many times that I can shoot within a close range of my home. There is often a lot of hiking involved as well. Last winter for example, my friend Ray Yeager and I covered 10 miles of beach on foot carrying many pounds of gear in search of a snowy owl. I can tell you honestly that the bag I was using then (I won’t mention any names) to transport my 600mm lens did not do a good job. My back and shoulders hurt for a week due to the lack of padding and poor design. Also, that bag did not allow me to carry more than one camera and lens. So when I tell you I am excited about this product, that's an understatement! These are my true honest opinions of this bag.

I recently acquired a Mindshift Gear MP-1 bag. This is one of 3 bags in the Moose Peterson line along with the MP-3 and MP-7 which are all sized differently depending on the amount of gear they hold with the Mp-1 being the largest of the 3 bags.  You can see the lineup here along with many other bags. http://www.mindshiftgear.com/?rfsn=686779.59557

What I was amazed about is not only how much gear this bag held but how comfortable it actually was to carry. On one side of the bag I had a Nikon D810 attached to a 600mm f4 lens. On the other side of the bag I had a Tamron 15-30mm 2.8 lens, a Nikon 70-200mm f4 lens and a Nikon D5 attached to a 200-500mm f5.6 lens as well as a memory card case and some other accessories. I don’t have to choose which gear to bring anymore because it all fits! I hauled all of this equipment around for a few hours with no back pain! Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely heavy carrying all of this gear but the MP-1 made it very east to transport all of this!

Another thing that I LOVE about this bag is that there is an option to cover up the back pack straps with velcro flaps transforming the bag into more of a suitcase. There is a carry handle on the side. This feature is great for flying with this bag (on the airlines that allow a larger carry on, be sure to check with the airline before trying to fly with this pack). This bag is incredibly well made. The flaps on the bag also are designed to shut automatically to keep dust and dirt out which is a nice feature.

I don't often find myself not finding at least one thing to complain about when I get new gear but this bag has me impressed. If down the road I change my mind I will update this review but for now I couldn’t honestly be any happier with it. Check out the video at the bottom of this page if you still aren't convinced!
