2023 Florida Photo Workshop - Sold Out
Updated: Feb 12
This workshop takes place in beautiful Florida to photograph many different species of birds and possibly other wildlife. Some of the highlights of this trip will be the nesting burrowing owls in Cape Coral where we will spend time photographing many of the 1,000 pairs of owls that nest in Cape Coral. We will also visit a rookery with hundreds of nesting herons, egrets, spoonbills and wood storks. Some of these nests are so close that you could touch them (though that isn’t allowed sorry!) We will start in Northern Florida and make several other stops along the way as we head down to SW Florida hitting beaches, cypress swamps and more! This trip is open for any skill level whether you’re a professional photographer or even if it’s your first time using a camera!
The dates of this workshop are:
April 15-23 2023
While nothing is guaranteed (except for burrowing owls), the prior year's trips produced the following species and many more not listed:
Burrowing owls, multiple barred owl families with owlets, roseate spoonbills, painted buntings, tricolored herons, reddish egret, brown pelican, little blue heron, alligators, purple gallinule, great blue heron, great egret, snowy egret, red shouldered hawk, osprey, pileated woodpeckers, raccoon, many types of songbirds and warblers, anhinga, cormorant, bald eagles, limpkin, sandhill crane, white & glossy ibis, wood stork and much more!

What lens to bring: I suggest using a lens that is a minimum of 300mm or longer. While you can get very close to the owls, it is best for them if you keep your distance so that we do not disturb their daily activities. Also for the rookery you will need a little bit more focal length so again I suggest a minimum of a 300mm lens. I personally shoot with a 80-400mm and a 600mm lens. If you do not have a long lens I highly recommend lensrentals.com as they have very reasonable prices to rent equipment.
What’s included:
-Hotel costs including a shuttle service to and from the airport if you fly into Orlando International Airport.
Keep in mind that days 1 and 9 are travel days only, we will have 7 full days of shooting (with breaks for meals)
